An International True Crime Classic of the Baekeland Plastics Dynasty, Incest, and London Matricide

Behind the immense wealth of the Baekeland family—heirs to the fortune created by Leo Baekeland, inventor of Bakelite plastic—lay decades of severe psychological breakdown and domestic trauma. In November 1972, socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland was stabbed to death inside her penthouse in London's Chelsea district.

Natalie Robins and Steven M. L. Aronson reconstruct the crime through letters, medical records, and interviews with international high-society figures. The narrative documents the arrest and psychiatric commitment of Barbara's son, Antony "Tony" Baekeland, detailing the family's jet-set lifestyle across New York, Paris, and London.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Robins and Aronson deliver an Edgar Award-winning masterpiece of biographical true crime and high-society tragedy. Essential reading for fans of Dominick Dunne, Truman Capote, and Jean Stein.
