Australian author Inez Baranay recounts her year living as a volunteer women's advocate amidst tribal conflicts in Papua New Guinea.

In 1991, Australian writer Inez Baranay volunteered with Australian Volunteers Abroad, traveling to the highlands of Enga Province in Papua New Guinea as a women's development officer. Rascal Rain documents her immersive experiences navigating tribal fighting, gender inequality, and local gang culture ("rascalism").

Baranay provides a candid, self-reflective account of foreign aid work, tribal customs, and deep friendships forged with highland women struggling for social change.
