A Standard Instruction Manual on Jazz Harmony, Figured Bass, and Rhythmic Principles

Jazz pianist and Juilliard instructor John Mehegan provides a systematic foundational textbook for studying jazz piano and improvisation. Organizing seventy structured lessons around sixty classic jazz standards, Mehegan details tonal principles, chord voicings, arpeggio structures, and figured-bass notation.

Tracing the stylistic evolution of jazz harmony from ragtime and early swing through bebop masters like Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, this manual serves as an indispensable framework for keyboard musicians and arrangers.

Why You’ll Love This Book

John Mehegan combines authoritative Juilliard music theory, structured figured-bass drills, and classic jazz standard analysis. An essential 1992 Amsco Music Publications paperback reference for jazz pianists, arrangers, and music educators.
