A Creative Planetary Sci-Fi Novel of Starship Crashes, Circus Performers, and Invasions

Two centuries after the starship City of Baraboo crashed on the unmapped planet Momus, the descendants of the surviving circus troupe have built an eccentric, thriving planetary society. Governed by showmanship, illusion, and acrobatic traditions, Momus has existed for generations without a standing army, police force, or formal government.

The planet's peaceful isolation ends when an armada from the militaristic Vorilian Empire arrives to conquer Momus and subjugate its populace. Refusing to succumb to military occupation, the performers use illusion, aerial acrobatics, and tactical psychological trickery to disarm and defeat the invading force.

Why You’ll Love This Book

John W. Campbell Award-winner Barry B. Longyear crafts an inventive, humorous planetary sci-fi novel exploring unconventional defense and cultural resilience. Essential reading for fans of Keith Laumer, Jack Vance, and Spider Robinson.
