A Classic 1974 Outback Memoir by the First Ranger of Uluru

Legendary Australian bushman, author, and bush ranger Bill Harney shares his firsthand memories of living and working in Australia's Northern Territory. As the first official custodian and ranger at Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the late 1950s, Harney lived alongside Anangu Aboriginal communities, learning the sacred lore, rock art significance, and desert traditions of the Red Centre.

His account records survival in the arid interior, traditional bushcraft, desert wildlife, and deep cross-cultural friendships formed during mid-twentieth-century Outback transformations.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Bill Harney offers an authentic, respectful window into Australian Outback bush life and Uluru's cultural history. Indispensable reading for lovers of Australian history, Outback memoirs, and indigenous cultural studies.
