Journalist Daniel P. Mannix investigates the infamous life, ceremonial magic practices, and occult legacy of Aleister Crowley.

In The Beast, investigative author Daniel P. Mannix examines the notorious life of British occultist Aleister Crowley, once dubbed by press headlines as "the wickedest man in the world." Mannix traces Crowley's path from his strict Plymouth Brethren childhood through Cambridge, his ceremonial magic rituals, and the founding of Thelema.

The biography documents Crowley's mountaineering expeditions, scandal-plagued Sicilian commune at Cefalù, chemical dependencies, and enduring influence on twentieth-century counterculture and modern esotericism.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Daniel P. Mannix delivers vivid narrative reporting, historical occult research, and an engaging biographical portrait. A collectible 1959 Ballantine paperback for readers of occult history, biography, and vintage non-fiction.
