Arthur Shawcross: The Genesee River Killer by Dr. Joel Norris
From February 1988 until his capture nearly two years later, convicted child killer Shawcross terrorized the city of Rochester, New York, with his spree of savage slaughter. Having been released from prison early against the warnings of his parole officer, Shawcross began trolling Rochester's notorious red light district for prostitutes. Strangling them in remote wooded areas, his insane bloodlust then drove him to butcher their bodies and devour parts of their remains before disposing of them. Police finally arrested him by accident when he was observed casually eating lunch as the nude body of his latest victim floated past him in the nearby Genesee River.
Confessing to all eleven of the grisly sex killings, Shawcross stood trial after nearly a year of intense psychological and medical evaluations. The gruesome details of his crimes shocked the court, but paled before his sworn statements about his early abused childhood and his tour of duty in Vietnam where he first tasted human flesh. He was finally convicted on all counts and sentenced to 250 years in prison without parole.
