A Lyrical Indian Travelogue Following Torrential Rains from Kerala to Cherrapunji

Travel correspondent Alexander Frater embarks on an extraordinary journey across the Indian subcontinent, following the arrival and progression of the summer monsoon rains from their landfall in Kovalam, Kerala, up to Cherrapunji in Meghalaya—the wettest place on Earth.

Traveling through Goa, Bombay, Delhi, and Calcutta, Frater captures how the monsoon governs Indian agriculture, poetry, rail travel, and daily existence. The travelogue combines meteorological science, history, and humorous encounters with local residents.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Alexander Frater delivers a classic, evocative travel memoir celebrating the majesty and cultural power of India's monsoon season. Perfect for fans of Eric Newby, William Dalrymple, and Paul Theroux.
