A Dick Francis Horse Racing Mystery Thriller of Diplomatic Cover-Ups and Veterinary Malpractice

Former British diplomat Peter Darwin returns to his childhood village in Gloucestershire, England, planning a quiet leave after years of foreign service. His homecoming is interrupted when he assists a local veterinary surgeon, Herbert Mercer, who is facing a mysterious string of unexplained horse deaths following routine surgical procedures at a prominent racing stable.

Recognizing signs of deliberate sabotage rather than medical error, Peter applies his diplomatic espionage skills to investigate the stable owners and local racing syndicate. Peter uncovers a lucrative insurance fraud scheme, putting himself directly in the line of fire.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Dick Francis combines diplomatic tradecraft with equestrian sports realism and tight narrative suspense. A classic British mystery thriller for readers who enjoy investigative sleuths and horse racing fiction.
