A Post-Civil War Somali Literary Novel of Mogadishu Warlords, Returnee Exile, and Family Kidnappings

After twenty years living as a university professor in New York, Somali exile Jeebleh returns to his war-torn hometown of Mogadishu during the 1990s following US troop withdrawals. Jeebleh intends to visit his mother's grave and locate his childhood friend Raage's missing young niece, Raheela, who was abducted by rival clan warlords.

Navigating a city carved into hostile clan territories, militia checkpoints, and political corruption, Jeebleh relies on local contacts to track the missing child while confronting the moral compromises of civil war and exile.
