A Prequel Criminal Profiling Thriller of Chess-Playing Serial Killers and Geographical Analysis

Set in 1997, before he became a top FBI special agent, young homicide detective Patrick Bowers takes on a chilling murder case involving a serial killer who leaves carved chess pieces at crime scenes. As additional victims are discovered accompanied by strategic chess moves, Bowers realizes a calculating predator is treating the city as a grandmaster game board.

To stop the killer, Bowers relies on his pioneering methods in spatial analysis and geographical profiling—techniques met with skepticism by his superiors. Bowers engages in a high-stakes psychological game of chess to catch the killer before the final checkmate.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Steven James delivers an explosive origin story for fan-favorite agent Patrick Bowers, combining forensic profiling, chess mind games, and relentless narrative tension. Perfect for fans of Mindhunter and criminal profiling thrillers.
