A Houghton Mifflin Pourquoi Folktale of How the Possum Lost Its Tail Fur

Part of the Houghton Mifflin Reading Leveled Readers series (Level 2.4.3), author Jiang Qingling retells a traditional pourquois folktale explaining why possums have hairless tails. Possum boasts about his thick, fluffy tail to the forest animals until Sly Fox tricks him into wrapping his tail in snakeskin and dancing near a bonfire, accidentally singeing off all his fur.
