S Is for Space by Ray Bradbury

In this spellbinding collection of sixteen short stories, the legendary Ray Bradbury explores a Star Wilderness that stretches as far as the mind can see and imagine. First published in 1966 as a companion to R Is for Rocket, these tales weave together natural and supernatural elements to showcase every side of the author’s nature, from traditional space adventure to chilling horror and religious allegory. From martians and mushrooms to creatures that walk from the grave, S Is for Space provides a diverse landscape of the spine-tingling, supernatural and sublime. Whether exploring the quiet terror of Zero Hour or the nostalgic beauty of October 2026—The Million-Year Picnic, Bradbury’s miraculous storytelling remains a definitive voice for all time.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Selected from his own personal favorites, this collection represents the Master of Miracles at the height of his imaginative powers. You will be captivated by the range of these finest stories, which transition seamlessly between comedy, haunting fables, and classic sci-fi. If you appreciate vintage science fiction that feels as poetic as it is prophetic, this 1970 Bantam edition—complete with its iconic Star Wilderness cover art—is an essential addition to any curated library.

Condition Note

Vintage - Good / Provenance Copy. This 1970 mass market paperback shows moderate shelf wear and age. The spine is square and intact with light rubbing at the edges. The cover art remains vibrant, though there is minor toning and a small sticker residue on the front. The pages have begun to tan with age, but the text block remains clean and secure.

Library Markings & Provenance: This is a former library copy from V.V.B.S. (Valley View Boys School) in St. Charles, Illinois. Part of the DuPage Library System, this facility was a state-operated juvenile rehabilitation center for youths aged 13–20. Originally designed as a minimum-security school in the 1960s, it aimed to rehabilitate "delinquent" youths through academic and vocational training before its eventual closure in 2002. This copy carries the tangible history of a complex, now-shuttered institution, adding a layer of historical significance to an already classic text.
