James Herriot's 1982 Illustrated Anthology of Yorkshire Veterinary Stories

Published in 1982 by St. Martin's Press and the Reader's Digest Association, The Best of James Herriot is a 502-page hardcover illustrated anthology collecting over 50 selected stories by Yorkshire veterinary surgeon James Herriot.

The volume gathers personal favorites from Herriot's acclaimed autobiographical books, including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, and The Lord God Made Them All. Set against the backdrop of rural North Yorkshire, the chapters recount Herriot's experiences treating livestock, farm animals, and household pets, alongside vignettes of the local farming community, his eccentric practice partners Siegfried and Tristan Farnon, and his wife Helen. The text is illustrated with color photographs of the Yorkshire Dales, historical countryside imagery, and margin line drawings.
