A Dark Academic Historical Mystery of Medieval Tarot, Museum Archives, and Obsession

Ann Stilwell arrives in New York City expecting a summer curatorial internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, only to be reassigned to The Cloisters—the Met's gothic branch dedicated to medieval art in Washington Heights. She is drawn into an insular research team led by charismatic curator Patrick Roland and his wealthy assistant Rachel Mondray.

While cataloging medieval artifacts, Ann uncovers a hidden 15th-century tarot deck that suggests the cards were created for genuine fortune-telling rather than gaming. As academic rivalry, romantic entanglements, and ambition intensify, the team's obsession with medieval divination leads to deception and murder.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Katy Hays crafts an atmospheric dark academic mystery set within the gothic halls of New York's medieval museum. Combining art history, Renaissance tarot lore, and psychological tension, this novel is essential reading for fans of Donna Tartt, Elizabeth Kostova, and Alex Michaelides.
