A Pete Hautman Darkly Comedic Crime Thriller of Minnesota State Fair Heists

Seventy-three-year-old ex-poker player Axel Speeter lives a quiet life managing a taco stand at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds while stashing $260,000 in cash inside coffee cans at his home. When his sunbathing employee, her ex-con boyfriend, and a crew of amateur criminals learn about the hidden fortune, they plot a simple burglary.

However, Axel is far from a defenseless target. When the heist goes wrong, it sparks an escalating series of double-crosses, shootout mishaps, and chaotic pursuits across the Twin Cities, proving that old poker players never fold easily.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Pete Hautman delivers sharp Midwestern noir humor, eccentric small-time crooks, and unpredictable heist twists. A darkly funny crime novel for fans of Elmore Leonard, Carl Hiaasen, and Donald E. Westlake.
