An Iconic British Mystery of Horse Racing, Fixed Races, and Extortion

During a routine steeplechase at Penn Common, amateur jockey Alan York watches his close friend, major race favorite Bill Davidson, suffer a fatal fall over a simple fence. Suspicious of the collapse, Alan inspects the jump and discovers a hidden wire stretched across the course meant to intentionally trip Davidson's horse.

When the authorities dismiss the incident as an accident, Alan launches his own investigation into the syndicate fixing races across England. As he uncovers an extortion racket targeting racehorse owners, Alan finds himself hunted by ruthless criminals desperate to protect a lucrative underworld empire.
