An Allen Say Picture Book of Commercial Billboard Painting and Artistic Ambition

Caldecott Medalist Allen Say tells the story of a young boy with artistic ambitions who takes a summer job assisting a quiet, enigmatic sign painter named Arrow. Traveling together across the desert landscape of the American West, they paint giant billboard advertisements for a swimsuit model along empty highways and desert cliffs. As they move from town to town, the young boy observes Arrow's dedication to commercial craft while questioning his own path as an artist.

Why You’ll Love This Book

Allen Say's painterly watercolor artwork captures the vast desert vistas and quiet reflective moments of classic Americana. A thought-provoking picture book for older children, art students, and collectors of Allen Say's works.
